I bought this after seeing 5 doves hanging onto my feeder and furiously flapping their wings and fighting with each other. Since then, the doves don’t try at all after learning that they can’t get to the seeds. Recently we had a squirrel jump on it and walk around the rim. The doors to the seeds shut as they should, and our little furry friend was not successful. We have enjoyed watching many smaller birds feed from this including cardinals, sparrows, chickadees, and an occasional woodpecker. Blue jays also can hang on but I think it is a lot of work for them. You can adjust the tension on the ring to respond to weight. I had to adjust it a couple of times so that the doors shut when the doves landed on it.
